Fiber Store
Our flock was first established here in 2015. Since inheriting them with the farm in 2022, we have worked to know each individual under our care -- our "matriarchs," our breeding rams, the quality of fleece each grows and passes down through family lineage, any health related issues throughout the year, and specific weather conditions impacting the quality of pastures and our management. Each year brings different challenges, and each sheared fleece tells the story of a life lived.
While the Clun Forest breed is wonderfully consistent in fleece production -- a "down breed" producing creamy white, thick wool with a high crimp measuring anywhere from 3.5 to 5.5 inches in staple length -- some are just softer and silkier. Through careful sorting, we find the right use for each one. Below is a current list of products. We endeavor to keep the wool as close to home as possible, partnering with nearby mills for many of the end products.
Botanical Dye Kits
Experience the wonder of natural, botanical dyeing at home. Our kits include dried flowers and wool lovingly grown and harvested on our farm using organic, regenerative practices.
Flower options include: Dyer's Coreopsis, Cracker Jack Marigolds, and Dahlias. All of these flowers give lovely, rich shades of yellow, orange, or olive depending on the strength of the dye bath, pH levels of the water, and other modifiers.
The yarn included is from our own flock of Clun Forest sheep, an endangered breed raised for their lean meat, rich milk, and springy, dense fiber. Abigail is one of the matriarchs in our flock, and grows a particularly soft fleece. This yarn comes from her and her offspring.
One kit includes:
- 20-25g dried flowers
- 50g skein of yarn
- alum mordant
